What is Matomo?

Matomo (MTO) is a new web analytics tool being introduced for Army MWR to track and analyze website performance while ensuring complete data control and security. Unlike Google Analytics, Matomo provides CAC card authentication for secure access and allows personnel to manage their own accounts.

Who will be affected by the transition to Matomo?

The introduction of MTO will affect all Army MWR personnel who are involved in tracking and analyzing website data. This includes webmasters, digital marketing professionals, and other personnel who use Google Analytics to track website performance.

Why do we need MTO?

Google Analytics is no longer accessible to most users due to increased restrictions, and users unable to create and use google accounts leading to the adoption of Matomo (MTO) as the primary analytics platform.

This shift is driven by the need for improved data security, privacy, and customized analytics tailored to Army requirements. The new analytics offer advanced features that will help the Army make more informed decisions, improve website performance, and enhance user experience.

Where will MTO be implemented?

MTO will be implemented across all Army MWR websites, including MWR, WCAP, AFRC, Brand Central, and MWR Resource Center platforms. In total there are 94 websites using MTO

Training sessions will be provided to ensure that all users are equipped to effectively manage their data and reporting needs.

When is the rollout of MTO happening?

The rollout of MTO will occur over the next few months with a phased approach.

What happens to Google Analytics?

Google Analytics (GA) will continue to run as usual. If you are receiving reports by email, they will continue.

Can I still access Google Analytics?

Yes if you have a Google Analytics (GA) login you will continue to have access.
